Grinding versus pulling the stump
There are two ways to get rid of a stump. Grinding uses a machine with a spinning carbide wheel that turns the stump into mulch where it sits. It’s fast, it’s clean, and it leaves the roots in the ground to rot on their own. Pulling or digging the stump takes the whole root ball out with an excavator. That’s the right call when you’re building on the spot, putting in a pool, or clearing a lot. For a stump in a lawn, grinding is almost always the better and cheaper choice.

What to expect on grinding day
We mark sprinkler heads and any lines you know about. We set up guards to keep chips off the house and cars. Then the grinder works across the stump in passes until it’s below the soil line. When we’re done you’ll have a pile of chips where the stump was. You can leave them to settle into a mulch bed, or we rake them out and add fill so you can sod right over it.
