Valrico and FishHawk are neighbors with different trees. Valrico, along Bloomingdale Avenue and Lithia Pinecrest Road, has older lots with big laurel oaks, water oaks, and pines that went in decades ago. FishHawk Ranch was built from the late 1990s on. It has planted live oaks and magnolias in the villages, and original slash pines and cypress along its 25 miles of trails and preserves. In Valrico, removal of aging laurel oaks and pines is the top request. Trimming for the live oaks in River Hills, Buckhorn, and Twin Lakes comes next. In FishHawk Ranch, it’s hurricane prep, roof clearance on the now-large live oaks, palm cleaning around pools, and checks on the pines that border the preserves. We grind stumps, cable split trees, and clean up storm debris across both.
Local conditions in Valrico and FishHawk
The ground here rolls more than most of Hillsborough County. There are sandy ridges and wet bottoms around Valrico Lake, Fish Hawk Creek, and the Alafia River to the south. Oaks on the ridges grow deep roots and hold up well. Oaks in the bottoms rot early. Pines are everywhere. A pine that was part of a stand and now stands alone after construction is the tree we worry about most in wind.
Both communities are unincorporated Hillsborough County. Most yard trees 12 inches or wider at chest height need a county removal permit. Grand oaks of 34 inches or more are protected more strictly. FishHawk Ranch and many Valrico subdivisions add HOA landscaping rules on top. We check the county and the HOA before we quote, and we handle the paperwork.

Storm season in Valrico and FishHawk
Inland wind is the story here. In the 2024 storms, the trees that came down in FishHawk were mostly lone pines and laurel oaks with heavy, unthinned crowns. In Valrico it was the older laurel oaks that had been dropping limbs for years. A spring visit to thin the crowns, remove the deadwood, and look hard at the pines is cheap insurance.
