Town ‘n’ Country was one of Tampa’s first true suburbs, built on a dairy farm at Hillsborough Avenue and Memorial Highway starting in 1958. The ranch houses are still there, and so are the trees that went in with them. Laurel oaks and water oaks that were saplings when the first families moved in are now 60-year-old giants at the end of their lives. They hang over houses that were never designed for it. Laurel oak removal is the number one request in the original Town ‘n’ Country Park streets and in Twelve Oaks. It often takes a crane, because the lots are small and the trees are big. Trimming and hurricane prep on the live oaks are next. In Bay Crest and the canal neighborhoods near Rocky Point, it’s palm trimming and salt-damaged tree removal. Along Sheldon Road and Hanley Road, the newer communities need roof clearance and young tree shaping. We grind stumps and clear storm debris everywhere.
Local conditions in Town ‘n’ Country
Two soils, two problems. The inland streets are sandy and well drained, and the trees there mostly fail from age. The canal streets in Bay Crest and along Old Tampa Bay are built on fill with salt in the ground water. Hardwoods struggle there while palms thrive. After the 2024 storm surge, a lot of oaks on the bayside streets browned and died, and those removals are still happening.
Town ‘n’ Country is unincorporated Hillsborough County. Most yard trees 12 inches or wider at chest height need a county removal permit. Grand oaks of 34 inches or more are strictly protected. Invasive species are exempt. Florida’s arborist exemption lets a single-family homeowner remove a documented hazard tree without a permit, which fits a lot of the old laurel oaks here. We handle whichever path applies.

Storm season in Town ‘n’ Country
Old trees over old houses, and salt water on the bay side. In the 2024 storms, Town ‘n’ Country had both problems at once. The inland laurel oaks split and dropped, and the bayside trees drowned in surge. A spring hurricane prep visit for the inland lots, and an honest look at which bayside trees are actually going to survive, is what we recommend.
